IS IT TIME FOR YOUR EYE EXAM?
According to my records you may be due for an eye exam at this time. During the course of an eye exam, I will check for signs of glaucoma, cataracts, signs of diabetes, high blood pressure and other eye and systemic diseases.
According to the American Optometric Association, people should have eye exams according to the following schedule:
Patient's Age Recommended eye exams
0-18 one exam per year*
19-40 one exam every two years*
41-65 one exam per year*
66- at least one eye exam per year*
* People who have or have family members with conditions like diabetes, hypertension, glaucoma, strabismus, amblyopia, retinal diseases and other conditions may need to be seen more frequently.
Please call my office at 633-3035, 882-9566 for an appointment. Also, visit my new web site at www.sheepscoteyeassociates.com. You will soon be able to order your contacts directly from this site. More links and other information will be added in time.
MOVING TO 145 TOWNSEND AVE.
The Boothbay Harbor office of Sheepscot Eye Associates is moving to 145 Townsend Ave, (the former office of Dr. Douglas Bevin's). We should be moved into the space by about June 15. The office will be over twice the size of our current office which will allow us to have two complete exam rooms, a pretest-history room, room for the OCT and perimeter, a contact lens room and enlarged frame display area.
The Wiscasset office will be unaffected by this move and will have the same location and hours of operation.
SCANNING LASER OPTHALMOSCOPE
At the office of Sheepscot Eye Associates in Boothbay Harbor is a new Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), an interferometric, non-invasive optical tomographic imaging technique, made by Humphrey Zeiss, OCT is a state of the art scanning laser ophthalmoscope that will create digital images of the retina and optic nerve. The images can be used in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma and some retinal diseases such as diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, macular holes and a number of other retinal diseases.
In glaucoma, the OCT will enable Dr. Nadeau to see the optic nerve in formats and using the OCT determines if there are changes in the optic nerve that may be due to glaucoma. In established patients with glaucoma, it will be used to monitor the effectiveness of treatment and progression of the disease. By having comparable images taken over time, the instrument can show signs of change sooner and allow for earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment of the disease.

MISSION STATEMENT
It is my goal to provide you and your family with the highest quality eye care at reasonable fees.
ABOUT MYSELF
I am a member of the Main Optometric Association, the New England Council of Optometrists and the American Optometric Association. I am on the staff of St. Andrews Hospital as an allied health care professional. Over the years, I have had the privilege to act as a clinical consultant on the FDA approval of two brands of contact lenses, to sit on the panel at a seminar, to lecture at seminars to my colleagues on Medicare issues, to speak to legislative committees on behalf of my association, and provide leadership and support to a number of issues.
I also currently serve also as the Maine's optometric representative to Medicare's Carrier Advisory Committee for New England.
ABOUT EYE CARE
A routine eye exam requires about 35 minutes. During the exam, a complete history of your eye care conditions, specific problems, previous eye problems, medical history, all medication, review of systems, family and social history will be taken, It is important that you provide all information requested regardless of how insignificant you feel it is. The eyes are part of the body and what affects the rest of your body may be affecting your eyes. Refraction will be performed to measure your refractive error (need for glasses) along with tests of focusing, eye mobility and coordination skills.
A glaucoma test (tonometry) along with test of some of the cranial nerves and extra-ocular muscles will be performed. Your pupils may be dilated to allow a more thorough examination of the retina and inside of the eye. These drops are inconvenient but necessary in many patients. After dilation, the natural lens will be examined for any signs of cataracts and the vitreous and retina examined for eye diseases or other conditions.
Other procedures such as fundus photography, threshold perimetry, external photography and OCT may be required to fully evaluate or document your eye condition.
Non-routine eye care, emergency care of eye injuries, infections other eye conditions requiring care and treatment.
I am licensed and certified to diagnose, manage and treat many eye diseases, injuries and other eye conditions. I can remove superficial foreign bodies, remove eyelashes, provide treatment for dry eyes with drops and punctual plugs. With advanced certification, I will be able to diagnose and treat glaucoma.
As such I can act as your primary eye care provider, managing your eye care, consulting with other health care providers and with eye surgeons for the specialty care that you need.
CONTACT LENS CARE
I have available full spectrum of contact lenses, disposables, planned replacement, astigmatic, gas-permeable, bifocal, soft lenses, tinted or opaque lenses, and custom designs. All brands and toric lenses are available at competitive fees.
OPTICAL DISPENSARY
I have about 1000 frames in my optical dispensaries. All types of lenses are also available including progressives. Thin and light weight lenses, polarized, photochromatics and most other lens styles and options.
COMPETITIVE FEES
I will meet or beat any advertised fee for any eye wear (frames and/or lenses). Simply bring me the advertisement, coupons, discount offerings, advertised specials, or other promotions.
This is the same for materials and fees as offered by the advertisers. We will contact the advertisers to obtain a quote on their fees and then provide you the same discount as they would have. If my usual and customary fees for the same materials are less than the promotional offer, we will charge the lesser of the two fees.
Same materials are required. If the same materials are not available, I will allow you to select from materials of an equal quality or value. You can receive the quality eye wear at competitive fees from my offices. You will find that my usual and customary fees are a better value than most special offers. You will also receive service for those materials at my convenient locations from your home.
